How it all Started

Katswe Sistahood was founded in 2007. It is a movement of young dynamic women fighting for the full attainment of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) by all young women in Africa. It is a platform that enables young women to mobilise, organise and articulate their needs and aspirations in respect of the SRHR education, SRHR services, and legal protection and to communicate these to policy makers and implementers.

OUR VISION

Young women and girls are empowered in every aspect of their life and enjoy equal rights to their male counterparts.

OUR MISSION

Katswe Sistahood exists to build a movement that champions young women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in order to promote and protect the rights of women in southern Africa.

The organisation seeks to achieve this through:

  • Information dissemination and awareness raising
  • Advocacy
  • Capacity building and training
  • Provision of and referrals to key services and commodities
  • Developing partnerships and networking

OUR VALUES

Katswe Sistahood abides by the following values:

  • Participation – we believe that the liberation of young women from inequality is only possible through the leadership and involvement of young women themselves.
  • Inclusivity – we do not discriminate anyone on any grounds; we know as young women the pain of being unfairly segregated.
  • Empathy – we understand and share the feelings of young women under oppression.
  • Sistahood – we are here to serve young women in southern Africa. We will always show up in solidarity with our sisters in need.
